4.5 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Southern California

A 4.4 Earthquake hits Southern California shortly after 4:00 am PST this morning.  The epic Center is centered around Pico Rivera, CA.

There is no preliminary report initially. With the recent activity in Haiti and Chili, there are definitely been lots of earthquake activity.

magnitude 4.4 earthquake occurred at 4:04 a.m. near the Pico Rivera Plaza Shopping Cener, five miles northeast of Downey, shaking much of Orange County, the U.S. Geological Survey says.  The quake happened on the northern end of the Whittier fault zone, at a depth of 11.2 miles.

“The magnitude might shift as we get more information,” says Bob Dollar. “We have people heading into the lab right now. It looks like it happened a little south of the 1987 Whittier earthquake, which measured about 5.7.”
