Mid day movers and shakers for Tuesday

Weatherford INTL LTD (NYSE: WFT)- The oilfield-service provider reported sharply lower fourth-quarter results but offered optimistic 2010 outlooks for drilling activity




United States Steel Corp (NYSE: X)- The company reported a net loss of $267 million or $1.86 per share, down from a profit of $290 million or $2.50 per share for the same quarter in 2008. However, the company slightly narrowed its loss from the third quarter, when it posted a loss of $303 million.




Vale S.A. ADS (NYSE: VALE)- On Monday the company plans to resume nickel mining and milling operations at Voisey’s Bay, Labrador, which have been idle since workers went on strike on Aug. 1, 2009. It also announced it would restart its Sudbury, Ontario, smelter for the first time since a strike at the operation began during the summer.

AmerisourceBergen Corp (NYSE:ABC)- The pharmaceutical services company earned 52 cents a share in the fiscal first quarter, a 44% gain over 36 cents in the year-earlier period.




EI Du Pont de Nemours & Co (NYSE:DD)- The chemical maker returned to profitability in the fourth quarter and increased its 2010 earnings outlook. It reported a profit of $441 million, or 48 cents a share, versus a loss of $629 million, or 70 cents a share in the year-ago period.




Novo Nordisk A/S (NYSE:NVO)- The Danish drugmaker announced the FDA has granted approval for Victoza, generic liraglitude, to treat type 2 diabetes in adults. The drug is to be used in conjunction with diet and exercise to improve glycemic control. It expects to introduce Victoza in the U.S. in four to six weeks.




Sherwin-Williams Co (NYSE:SHW)- The household paint maker earned 58 cents a share in the fourth quarter, more than analysts’ forecast, compared with 42 cents in the year-earlier quarter.




Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV)- The U.S. property-casualty insurer reported higher quarterly earnings and revenue that beat estimates thanks to strong gains in underwriting and investment.
