Movers & Shakers: Boeing, AT&T reports due Wednesday; Yahoo up late

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) — Wednesday morning earnings reports from Boeing and AT&T and a better-than-expected update from Yahoo late Tuesday will likely spark action in the shares of all three companies.

Wednesday earnings reports expected

Boeing Co. BA, +2.26% : The aerospace company is projected to post $ 1.97 a share in the third quarter, according to a consensus survey by FactSet.

Dow Chemical Co. DOW, +3.66% : The chemical giant is expected to post third-quarter earnings of 67 cents a share.

Boston Scientific Corp. BSX, +3.62% : The medical devices maker is projected to earn 20 cents a share in the third quarter.

Biogen Idec Inc. BIIB, +4.93% : The biotech is likely to report third-quarter earnings of $ 3.45 a share.

Xerox Corp. XRX, +4.10% : The company known for its copiers and printers is expected to report third-quarter earnings of 26 cents a share.

AT&T Inc. T, +0.99% : The telecommunications company is forecast to report third-quarter earnings of 64 cents a share.

Tuesday after hours action

Yahoo YHOO, +2.29% shares rose 2.7% to $ 41.28 on heavy volume after the company reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of 52 cents on revenue of $ 1.09 billion.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet expected 32 cents a share on revenue of $ 1.05 billion.

VMware VMW, +0.60%  shares slipped 0.3% to $ 87.90, after gaining as much as 4% following the earnings release, on moderate volume. VMware reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of 87 cents a share on revenue of $ 1.51 billion. Analysts expected earnings of 83 cents a share on revenue of $ 1.5 billion.

Intuitive Surgical Inc. ISRG, +2.17%  shares rose 2.3% to $ 506.93 on moderate volume. The surgical robot maker posted adjusted third-quarter earnings of $ 3.92 a share on revenue of $ 550.1 million. Analysts expected third-quarter earnings of $ 2.94 a share on revenue of $ 515.4 million.

Broadcom Corp. BRCM, +2.84%  shares rose 4.7% to $ 39.03 on moderate volume after the company reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of 91 cents a share on revenue of $ 2.26 billion. Analysts expected earnings of 84 cents a share on revenue of $ 2.18 billion for the third quarter.
