White River Capital, Inc. Declares Dividend and Announces Results for 2009
WhiteRiver Capital, Inc. (NYSE Amex: RVR) (“White River”) today announced today that its Board of Directors has declared a quarterly cash dividend of 25 cents per share on its common stock to be paid March 12, 2010 to shareholders of record on March 3, 2010. In addition, White River announced net income for the fourth quarter 2009 was $1.3 million, or $0.33 per diluted share, compared to fourth quarter 2008 net income of $0.8 million, or $0.21 per diluted share. The Credit Card Accountability Responsibility and Disclosure Act of 2009 (CARD Act) goes into effect Monday, ensuring that consumers receive valuable information about their credit card statements. Unfortunately, the Act doesn’t go far enough or do enough to protect consumers–or the overall economy–from the unreasonably high fees that credit card companies and their issuing banks charge merchants every time anyone uses a credit or debit card. There is no question that consumers and merchants should bear the cost of the convenience and other benefits that credit and debit cards provide. But the hidden charges or “interchange fees” applied every time a customer swipes a credit or debit card far exceed those actual costs. These swipe fees generally amount to between 1% and 3% of the total purchase price, including tax and tips at restaurants.
