A Devastating Loss on The Fosters, A Mystery (Sort of) Solved on Under the Dome & More OMG TV Moments

The Fosters, David LambertABC FAMILY/Ron Tom

This was a sad night of television, mostly thanks to The Fosters and Switched at Birth, which were both fairly devastating. Under the Dome was less sad, but only slightly, as Chester’s Mill tried to deal with the continuing threat of running out of resources, and learned the origins of a mysterious new character. Teen Wolf played some intense lacrosse, and Shannon and Tamra continued to lose their minds on The Real Housewives of Orange County. Read on if you’re caught up on tonight’s TV to find out how it all played out!

The Fosters: Well, we’re crying. While Jesus and Mariana worked on selling Stef and Lena’s bed, and Callie finally talked to Jude, the moms discussed naming the baby Francesca, or Frankie, for short. Lena was just prescribed bed rest, and told to keep her blood pressure down, and everything seemed fine. Then, she had to be rushed to the hospital. She was diagnosed with preeclampsia, and had to make a choice between her own health or the baby’s life.

She had a heartbreaking talk with her mother about what it means to be a parent, and the family ended up planting a tree to honor the sister they lost. It was heartbreaking, and the warm fuzzy feelings we usually get from watching this show have been replaced by the desperate need to give all the characters a hug.

Under the Dome:  Last week, that crazy Rebecca came up with the plan to “thin the herd” and get rid of some of the population of Chester’s Mill. This week, she almost put it into action by giving everyone swine flu taken from the blood of a dead pig. Luckily, Julia and Sam caught her in time, landing both Rebecca and Big Jim in jail.

Junior let Lyle out of jail in order to get some answers about his mother, so Lyle showed him the postcards he had received from Pauline, all featuring her paintings of events that had happened since the dome appeared. They later go to Sam’s house to find Pauline’s journals, and Lyle knocks Junior out, steals the journals, and runs away.

Meanwhile, we finally know who Melanie is, sort of. The newspapers had reported her missing in 1988, but she wasn’t really missing. She had been dating Sam, and they had gone out to investigate a meteor that had fallen. The meteor cracked open, revealing a glowing egg, and Melanie wanted to take it home. Sam didn’t think that was a good idea, and pushed her when she refused to put the egg down. She hit her head on the meteor and died.

Also, Julia left glowing handprints on Sam’s skin when she pushed him after he tried to kiss her. So that’s weird!

NEWS: Get the scoop on the next season of Fargo!

Teen Wolf: Assassins (that’s what we’re calling it) continued this week, as Lydia and Malia worked to decipher more of the death list and Scott and Stiles tried to figure out who was trying to kill them, while also protecting Liam from his own anger issues. There was also a lot of lacrosse!

Scott and Stiles figured out pretty quickly that Garrett was involved, since he was the one who paid the keg delivery guy, but it took them a while to figure out that Violet (who we mistook for Braeden last week when we missed seeing her face) was in charge of all the beheading. She nearly trapped Scott, but he got all Alpha-y and turned the tables on her, leaving her unconscious on the locker room floor. We really, really hope we get some good backstory on Garrett and Violet, because we’re supremely interested in how these two freshmen came to be contract killers, since that was not one of the options at our 8th grade job fair.

Chris continued his hunt for Kate, and Derek revealed that Kate had somehow taken his wolf powers away from him, so he no longer has his strong sense of smell. Chris also ended up in a standoff with the Calaveras, who are also hunting for Kate, and wanted to remind him of the hunter’s code.

Lydia and Malia enlisted the help of Meredith (or rather, they thought about it and Meredith just showed up) to figure out the next cipher, which turned out to be “Aiden.” We can’t wait to figure out what that means, since Aiden is now very busy on The Leftovers

NEWS: Meet Revenge’s hot new cop

Switched at Birth, Katie LeclercABC FAMILY/Kelsey McNeal

Switched At Birth: ABC Family was rough tonight! After Angelo’s death from a brain aneurysm last week, everyone had a lot of grieving to do. While there was a lot of Regina-blaming and searching for the meaning in life, Daphne took things a little far when a college tour turned into a wild cocaine trip. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch these families cope with such a loss, but it was also a well-done hour of terribly sad television.

Real Housewives of Orange County: Tonight we picked up right where we left off last week – with Shannon’s complete and total meltdown – but things didn’t get much better. Shannon really wants everyone to know that this isn’t how she normally acts, but that does not seem to be the case.

Tamra (who really is the root of all the problems) isn’t having a great time either, as she seems to be losing her grip on her son. Not only is he planning on moving in with his girlfriend, but he’s planning on marrying her. They’ve got a date and a venue and everything, with no input from Tamra. The wedding revelation sent Tamra into a screaming fit at dinner, and we cannot wait until the episode where they tell her about the baby!

So what did you watch tonight? Are you crying as hard as we are? Are you sort of glad to see Rebecca and Big Jim put away for a while? Let us know in the comments!
