What’s Red Nose Day, you ask?

It first started in Britain in 1988 to raise money for poverty-stricken children in the UK and Africa. This year, the comedy benefit has extended to the United States, with NBC airing a three-hour special tonight, which included a very long list of star-studded hosts and cameos.

David DuchovnySeth Meyers and Jane Krakowski are co-hosted the special, and more than 100 celebrities donated their time and comedy, including Zac EfronJennifer AnistonNeil Patrick HarrisMatt LeBlancJosh GrobanReese WitherspoonBenedict CumberbatchJack BlackMichelle Rodriguez,Will Ferrell, the coaches from NBC’s The Voice and the group One Direction.

Gwyneth Paltrow showed off her Mission Impossible-esque moves by dropping down on a line to the stage but ended up getting stuck on her harness (whoops!), Kellan Lutz offered to strip down to his birthday suit for donations, Ed Sheeran sang a duet with his green pal Kermit the Frog and Robert Pattinson even took on the role of a valet driver, but ended up crashing a car. Guess he should stick to his day job.

That wasn’t all, though. Billy Eichner and Martin Short took to the streets to try and get donations from pedestrians (and also introduce Short to people, because apparently there are humans out there who don’t know who he is…what?!), Will Ferrell and Nick Offerman went head-to-head on The Voice, Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant got dubbed, the cast of HBO’s Game of Thrones performed a skit with the band Coldplay, U2 took the stage andJohn Mellencamp andKeith Urban performed the former rocker’s 1983 hit “Pink Houses.”

While there was plenty of funny to go around, it wasn’t all about the laughs. Jack Black tugged at heartstrings and brought a very real crisis to the forefront with an emotional video diary of his trip to Uganda, where he met with young children affected by poverty.

Throughout the telecast, viewers were informed that Red Nose Day contributions had already surpassed $ 10 million, and Bill Gates pledged to match $ 4 million!
