Jon Stewart Launches Mock Kickstarter Campaign to Buy CNN for $10 Billion—Watch Now!

It’s no secret that Jon Stewart loves to mock CNN, but on Tuesday’s episode of The Daily Show, the comedian had something else in mind: a network takeover.

Last night, Stewart addressed the reports that 21st Century Fox CEO Rubert Murdoch made a bid to buy Time Warner for a whopping $ 80 billion. While the proposal was rejected by the Time Warner Board of Directors, many have speculated that the media mogul, who has been referred to as the “billionaire who won’t take no for an answer,” will not back down from his offer.

If Murdoch does acquire Time Warner, then he will most likely sell CNN, a subsidiary of the cable giant, as it will compete with his own Fox News.

“Now of course, it [CNN] wouldn’t come cheap with analysts saying the network could be worth about $ 10 billion on the open market,” Stewart said. “That’s a lot of money for anyone, but not a lot of money for everyone.”

As for his solution? Launch a (mock) kickstarter campaign to buy CNN.

The 51-year-old comedian urged viewers to donate funds to (which, in case you were wondering, is a live website although it doesn’t allow users to actually contribute money), noting that there are “very attractive rewards” at every donation level.

“For example, $ 10,000 lands you in a signature CNN mass shooting coverage six box” and “for $ 25,000 you get to take molly with Fareed Zakaria.”

The political satirist continued, unable to resist the urge to poke fun at CNN for their past coverage. “For $ 5 million CNN will air a 24 hour two week hunt for your lost car keys,” he quipped.

Unsurprisingly, he also gave the network a poor review on the site, which mimics a Kickstarter campaign page. “CNN, America’s first 24-hour cable news network, has been terrible for many, many years,” reads. “Does it have to be that way? Who knows, maybe it does. So let’s find out for ourselves!”
