Restaurant Owner Leaves the Sweetest Note for the Person They Saw Dumpster Diving for Food
While some food establishments are focusing their energy on refusing service to certain members of the population (COUGH BIGOT PIZZARIA JOINT COUGH), this restaurant owner is busy reminding us that the human race is capable of truly wonderful things.
Ashley Jiron, owner of P.B. Jams in Warr Acres, Okla., did something incredible when she realized that someone was going through her establishment’s trash in order to find something to eat.
“Last week, I had noticed some bags, when I had taken out the trash, were torn open and some of the food was taken out,” she told Oklahoma City’s KFOR. “It hurt me that someone had to do that.”

Instead of ignoring the dumpster diving, Jiron decided to take action. She posted this note on the door of her restaurant:
“To the person going through our trash for their next meal,
You’re a human being and worth more than a meal from a dumpster. Please come in during operating hours for a classic Pb&J, fresh veggies, and a cup of water at no charge. No questions asked.
Your friend, the owner”
She also posted a photo of the sign to her company’s Facebook page, asking people to help her make sure that the hungry individual desperate for food saw her offer.
“If you happen to see the person, please stop and tell them this for me,” she wrote. “I will NOT take down this sign until this person has come in. And the signs I have posted in back, keep getting ruined by the rain.”

Her stop-at-nothing attitude at helping this stranger is such an inspiring message that’s desperately needed in a time when there are human beings all over the country being treated like second-class citizens because of their race, sexual orientation or income bracket.
“I think we’ve all been in that position where we needed someone’s help and we just needed someone to extend that hand and if I can be that one person to extend that hand to another human being then I will definitely do it,” she said.
Ashley, if your food is as wonderful as your heart, we think you’ll be in business for a very long time.
