Suspect arrested in shooting of two principals
The principal and assistant principal of Inskip Elementary School here were shot Tuesday, and a suspect was taken into custody.
Knoxville Police Department spokesman Darrell DeBusk said the two victims were alert and conscious when they were taken to University of Tennessee Medical Center.
Elise Luna and Amy Brace were both shot in the office area just before 1 p.m., police said.
Knoxville Police Chief Sterling Owen IV didn’t provide specifics but said one victim was headed into surgery, and the other had already been treated.
The man taken into custody has been confirmed by police as an employee at the school. Police said that means he was authorized to be in the building, but did not elaborate on what role he had in the school.
Police believe he was the only shooter.
The suspect was arrested just 14 minutes after the 911 call, at 1:03 p.m.
Two students were in the school at the time of the shooting, a Knox County Schools representative said. The students were waiting to be picked up by their parents because classes were dismissed early due to snow.
Police were interviewing employees who may have been witnesses to the shooting.
