Koenigsegg One:1 Sets Production Lap Record at Spa-Francorchamps

Despite having one of the top names in the supercar business, Christian von Koenigsegg is having a difficult time with the Koenigsegg One:1 hypercar. The car itself is fine, but the environment in which the One:1 is trying to set records is pushing back at the Swedish hypercar manufacturer. Koenigsegg rightfully believes their 1,341 hp monster has the gumption to obliterate the Nurburgring lap record. However, recent restrictions and speed regulations put in place following unfortunate race fatalities have put a kibosh on any and all manufacturer hot-lapping. In turn, Koenigsegg turned to set a record at a different track, the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.

After tackling the practice session on a track day, the One:1 splintered the previous production car record by a whopping five seconds, with a finishing time of 2:32.14. Remember, this was done during the practice session, among a field of much slower cars.

Koenigsegg geared up to tackle the track alone the next day, free from any traffic, but poor luck struck again, with the One:1’s 5.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 breaching the track’s sound limit of 103 dB. Despite an unsightly exhaust addition to curb the raucous noise, the One:1 was unable to complete a hot lap on an empty track. While they were able to chop five seconds off the next-fastest production car lap time, the Swedes feel there was more to take.

Hopefully, we will see the Nurburgring tamed by the One:1 in the near future. As Koenigsegg themselves said, “We hope to only need about 7 minutes of their time and we will do our best to not use all of it.”
