Multiple people have been injured and police in Gilroy, California, say the scene at the festival south of San Francisco is still active
A woman who was selling honey at the Gilroy Garlic Festival told CNN that her 10-year-old granddaughter had narrowly escaped being shot.
“She said she looked him straight in the eye and saw him, saw him coming towards her, and she hid,” she said.
She said her granddaughter also saved her boss’ 3-year-old baby son. She said her granddaughter grabbed the boy and hid under a box as they shooter came toward her.
The woman said her boss was shot in the leg, and her boss’ husband was shot three times.
“He’s in critical condition, they’re both in surgery at Valley Medical. I have no news on them. I don’t know what’s going on,” she said.
At least 11 people have been injured, all suffering from gunshot wounds, according to Joy Alexiou, a spokesperson for Santa Clara Valley Medical Center.
