No! I mean 2012. We live in the era of the 24-7 news cycle. We can't wait for events to actually happen before we comment on them.Besides, as you surely recall, 2012 was an INCREDIBLE sports year. It reminded me most of the 1999 sports year, though there are obvious parallels to the 2016 sports year as well. Let's look back at 2012.Jan. 4: Trailing Clemson 31-3 at halftime, West Virginia sues to get out of the Orange Bowl and join the Cotton Bowl for opening kickoff. West Virginia wins in court. The NCAA rules that this is all OK as long as the players receive only one bowl gift.Jan. 9: In a national championship game for the ages, Alabama and LSU head to overtime tied 4-4. Alabama gets the ball first in overtime and elects to punt. Sophomore Markel Starks and freshman Otto Porter made sure the Hoyas did both.Starks scored 16 of his career-high 20 points in the second half and Porter came up clutch late as No. 12 Georgetown snapped No. 4 Louisville's 20-game home winning streak with a 71-68 victory Wednesday night in the Big East opener for both teams."It was a very good, big win against a very good team in a difficult place to play," Georgetown coach John Thompson III said. "We aren't worrying about validation right now."Still, it was another strong performance from a team picked 10th in the Big East. [Read the full article] New York Knicks star forward Carmelo Anthony thinks that the league would have been better off had David Stern allowed the nixed trade that would have sent Chris Paul to the Los Angeles Lakers.I thought it would have been good for the Lakers and good for the whole NBA, Anthony told the New York Daily News. As a guy who loves to compete, I would have liked to see him out West with the Lakers. For me " I(TM)ve been battling the Lakers for the last seven years when I was in the Western Conference " I liked that.A deal was agreed upon in principle that would have sent Paul to the Lakers earlier this month, however David Stern, to much controversy, did not allow that trade to go through.
