Square Enix says sales of their long-awaited role-playing game Final Fantasy XIII topped 1 million in its first five days in North America.
According to the publisher, that is the largest first-week sales in franchise history. Just last week, Square Enix announced they had shipped 5 million copies to retailers worldwide. Over its lifetime, which began in 1987, the Final Fantasy series has shipped 96 million copies globally. Square Enix didn't provide a specific breakdown of how many of those sales were for PlayStation 3 versus Xbox 360. Readers will get a glimpse when U.S. sales figures for March are unveiled by the NPD Group next month. It has been a long wait to play Final Fantasy XIII for diehard RPG fans, as the game was first announced during 2006's Electronic Entertainment Expo. The game released on March 9. |
