American Honda says it will recall a still-to-be-determined number of sedans and minivans because of brake fluid leaks that could weaken brake power. It is basically the same potential fluid leak problem that led to the recall earlier today by Toyota Motor of 1.53 million Toyota and Lexus vehicles (see post here). Honda says the planned recall covers certain 2005-07 Acura RL sedans, as well as Honda Odyssey minivans from 2005 models through early 2007 models, and that it is still gathering information to determined the total number of vehicles affected. As with the Toyota's recall, the problem involves the possible failure of a seal in the brake master cylinder due to brake fluid other than the particular type specified for these vehicles. The result would be a slow leak that could weaken brake power, but would illuminate the brake fluid warning light on the dash before loss of braking. There have been no injuries or accidents and Honda says it plans to officially notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration today. We'll update this post when more details are released. |
